While reading this chapter of “My Freshman Year” I found many things that stood out to me and they gave me that ah ha! Moment that these things are really true. When I read what the author said about how people think “Americans” are rude and not very nice people, I thought hey that is me that you are talking about then a few personal experiences popped into my head that made me understand what the author was talking about. One of my experiences was when I was on vacation in Cancun, Mexico and my family and I were at a market in town and as we were walking people would give us the dirtiest looks and we heard one guy say “you think you are all fancy because you’re from the United States”. I don’t really know why I remember this moment but I think it might be because I was scared because I also remember holding onto my dad. After thinking about it I can see why other countries think we are rude and what not, because a lot of us really do think we are better than everyone else. When you go to different countries you notice that people there will go out of their way to help one another and when you come to the United States you find that is not very true because here everyone judges each other and some people are just very shallow.
